Save BBC 6 Music Protest Photos

Last Saturday I joined the peaceful protest against the closure of BBC 6 Music which took place outside BBC broadcasting house in London.

If you're a fan of 6 Music and haven't already contacted the BBC trust about the BBC's proposal to shut it down, please please do it now, let them know how you feel.  It's through giving the Trust feedback and joining in at such organised protests we can potentially make a difference.

If you want to help, here's your next step and if you want to find out more information about the proposed closure here's a link to the Save 6 Music Facebook group.

I believe it is possible to stop the closure of 6 Music, there's still time. If you agree join the Facebook group and start spreading the word!

Here are some of my photos from Saturday's protest:

I hadn't noticed the 'Jim'll Mix It' van in the background until now - nice BBC reference

Music Go Music - 'Just Me'

Music Go Music Go Music GO! Really enjoying this song and I love her top!

Music Go Music - Live on Face Time - 'Just Me'

Musée Mécanique @ Pure Groove

Yes! I finally got to see Musée Mécanique (allbeit at a Pure Groove free lunchtime show).

Here's a shoddy photo taken with my basic but ever reliable little camera.

Musée Mécanique

It was a real pleasure to meet the three band members currently on tour (they left two at home in Portland). Their live music was everything it is on the record, calming and brilliant. Highly recommend you buy 'Hold This Ghost' and find yourself some relaxation time to fully appreciate its brilliance.

Musée Mécanique - 'Like Home'

Musee Mecanique are based in Portland, Oregon and I have fallen in love with their latest album just in time to see them tour London next week. Yay! Recently I've had the somewhat disappointing experience of only beginning to truly appreciate some bands just as they've finished touring the UK and then I have to wait for what seems like forever for them to tour again, especially the US bands.

This is a video of their beautiful song 'Like Home' from their new album 'Hold This Ghost'. I strongly recommend you check out the whole album and enjoy a soft scoop of delicate dreamy folk. Imagine the softest feather floating on a delicate breeze...

I'm listening to them now and It's almost too relaxing to type... m-u-s-t p-u-l-l m-y-s-e-l-f t-o-g-e-t-h-e-r...here's some info re. London shows:

9 Mar THE LEXINGTON W/SHE KEEPS BEES
10 Mar PURE GROOVE (IN-STORE) (FREE!)
10 Mar BORDERLINE W/GET WELL SOON

There's loads more tour dates/music/photos on their Myspace.

P.S. If I could write on this screen I'd take a pen and add in all the accents I've missed off.

Help Save BBC Radio 6 Music From Closure

Today the BBC's Director General Mark Thompson confirmed that the excellent Digital Radio station BBC 6 Music is to be axed. He cited the need to plough more money into International news and putting a higher proportion of the licence fee into quality programming to make "fewer things better" amongst the reasons why 6 Music and also the BBC Asian Network are planned for closure by the end of 2011.

Since the closures still have to be agreed by the BBC Trust and will now go through a period of public consultation there is still a very small chance BBC 6 Music can be saved by us but it really is a teeny weeny speck of light at the end of a very long dank dark tunnel.

Want to help? Write an email to trust.enquiries@bbc.co.uk explaining why you think 6 Music should not be cancelled. I've just sent mine and received an automated response saying all emails sent to that address are read. Hope so.

If you need any help structuring your email there is some very good advice plus a template here.

This video is fun and so is this graph explaining the 08/09 BBC budget.
