Radiohead All I Need Used In End Exploitation Campaign

Radiohead has partnered with MTV's EXIT (end exploitation and trafficking) campaign to create a clip that raises awareness of issues of forced labor and abuse around the world using the song from In Rainbows, "All I Need".

The Hollywood Reporter (via Billboard.com) reports that Thom Yorke lauded MTV for taking on such issues, given the fact that the network's hands aren't exactly clean. He said, "All power to MTV for taking this on because it's obviously going to be difficult for them in terms of the advertisers. If you talk about slave labor, then the issue of cheap goods from the East is all about that. With the ["All I Need"] video their lawyers had to beg to make sure there wasn't a single white [sneaker] with a logo on it because the implication would be a little too close. But the implication is still there. If [MTV] are able to break the taboo of enslavement and put it onto the agenda then its a good thing. If they get people to think in terms of the profits we make in the West because of cheap labor, then that's a good thing."

NME.com reports that the video was directed by John Seale and Steve Rogers. It was apparently supposed to premiere May 1 on MTV, but it looks like The Hollywood Reporter's website is one step ahead.

I recently visited China and was absolutely horrified to see the difference in the price of goods we buy in the UK compared to how much they are sold for in China. There are plenty of people making a literally a killing, vamping up the price of goods to sell to the West and really, it's disgraceful. There are a few shops I will never shop in again following this trip.

Kraftwerk @ Coachella 2008

They've been at it again! According to NME:

"Kraftwerk gave Coachella-goers an audio-visual spectacle at the California desert festival tonight (April 26) during their early evening set on the main stage.

The German electro pioneers performed several classic tracks including 'Man Machine', 'Autobahn' and 'Trans Europe Express' underneath three massive screens that displayed video sequences tailor-made for each song.

In typical Kraftwerk fashion, the four men stood behind their laptops programming beats without saying a word during their entire set.

The band, who also played Coachella in 2004, drew a star-studded crowd including Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and actor David Hasselhoff, who watched from the VIP area.
"

I saw Kraftwerk in The Brixton Academy a few years ago and had a great time. The only down point of the evening was trying to find a taxi home from Brixton at around 3 in the morning.

Here's a very brief (less than 5 seconds) glimpse of Kraftwerk in 2008 (thanks to reslbear). They do appear to be wearing the same glowing grid outfits as they wore during the show I went to. Wonder how they wash those outfits, dry clean? MOT? The general format of the show seems about the same from the descriptions I've heard so far. Good to see them still touring and making a lot of people happy.

So what do we think would happen if Daft Punk, Kayne West and Kraftwerk were performing on the same stage? Would we all be blinded? I'll leave to ponder that thought.

Will post more photos and videos as they come in.

Bad Sleep Habits Makes Tacky Films Good

Hong Kong time seems to have caught up on me and I've begun regressing into evening naps. This of course is the worse time of day to nap because you're wide awake when you wake up at about 9pm. I'd like to think a direct result of this irregular sleep pattern is the reason why I just enjoyed a scene from tacky American film history, American Pie 3 -The Wedding.

Here's the scene that made me laugh:

Stiffler dancing in the gay bar scene

I think maybe my occasional bursts of living room dancing must look a bit like this. Nothing better than strapping on the huge cordless cans and giving it some energy!

Cut///Copy @ Amoeba San Francisco 2pm Tomorrow

Join Cut Copy at Amoeba San Francisco tomorrow for a special DJ set and signing.

Cut Copy, the indie-electro-dance explosion of three, has returned with the shimmering and timeless In Ghost Colours. Haunted with machines of the past and sounds of the future, In Ghost Colours inhabits the kind of space in time where trends are irrelevant and music is about feeling rather than following and 1969 is just as relevant as 2020. At once both jacking and jangly, electronic and organic, Cut Copy have crafted a record filled with glorious sounds and moods.

Starbucks Sells Music Arm Hear Music To Concord Music Group

Starbucks has offloaded its music arm Hear Music just a year after pulling off a major coup in signing Paul McCartney to the label, Variety reports.

The coffee giant has turned over the operation to Concord Music Group, its partner in the venture, in what it described as "a restructuring of its entertainment business to focus on digital strategy and core content with music and books".

The company added it would "look for ways to increase Wi-Fi related offerings and other in-store technology" - presumably a reference to its deal with Apple to roll out the iTunes Music Store in coffee houses across the US. Good because I can't seem to have a good time using the Wi-Fi in my local Starbucks.

The low-key announcement is in marked contrast to last year's fanfaring of Starbucks' entry into the music business. On signing to Hear Music, McCartney said he was "impressed with Hear Music's plan to use Starbucks' 13,500 retail outlets to sell the album", and enthused: "For me, the great thing is the commitment and the passion and the love of music, which as an artist is good to see."

Glen Barros, president of Concord Music Group, declared: "This is a pretty powerful new platform, when you can reach 44 million customers per week through Starbucks stores."

Hear Music also released albums by Joni Mitchell and James Taylor last year, and has "four or five" offerings slated for a 2008 release, including a disc by British R&B singer James Hunter.

Track Of The Day - Portishead - The Rip

I am really enjoying streaming the new Portishead album Third on LastFM. I think the idea of streaming your album on the Internet a week before the official release date is a really spot on idea - that is if you have a blinder of an album like this here Portishead. I will go out and buy this now I am happy that I actually like it. I wasn't really sure what to expect after loving Dummy so much. Portishead brings back a lot of fond memories from when I was a young teen and when a new album is so hyped, there's always a risk a lot of people will say they like it when it's actually crap. Of course whether you like it or not is your decision. I would suggest if you have a free hour to try streaming it on LastFM, it's quite relaxing and only slightly depressing ;-)

Final Outcome: Portishead are happy (in a Portishead sort of a way) + I'm happy (like Chalky in a cheesecake shop) = Good right?

Great idea Portishead, hope more artists take this route when releasing new albums.

The Dodos @ Amoeba Hollywood

The Dodos @ Amoeba Hollywood Last Night (23rd April, 2008)
Here's the link incase you can't load it - think there's been some problems with servers

Meric Long and Logan Kroeber formed The Dodos in early 2006. Shortly afterwards Long released a separate solo album titled Dodo Bird. Long and Kroeber then toured intermittently between July and September 2006, until the release of their first joint album Beware of the Maniacs at one of their shows. They continued touring until February 2007. In 2007 they were signed by Frenchkiss Records and they released their second album Visiter in 2008, which received the prestigious "best new music" at Pitchfork Media. A 17-venue national tour has followed during March and April this year.

Described by the Houston Press as:
"San Francisco-based singer/guitarist of psych-folk-pop duo Dodos hones the callings of free-spirited, unhinged acts like Animal Collective, the music he makes with drummer Logan Kroeber embodies a spirit of its own. Long's light, ephemeral finger play on the acoustic guitar is fast, warm and focused, resonating under his refined lyrical hopscotch... Add Kroeber's stomping tom-and-tambourine backbeat, which recalls the Velvet Underground's Moe Tucker, and that amounts to one shit-kicking good time."

You can listen to an MP3 called Jodi from the latest album Visiter here.

Elvis Perkins Playing Prospect Park, New York In June

I am a particular fan of Elvis Perkins In Dearland and if you've never heard of them, maybe you should listen to this track 'While You Were Sleeping' from their debut album Ash Wednesday. This is a performance for Blogotheque in Paris.

Elvis is 31 years old and plays with his band 'Elvis Perkins In Dearland', members include bassist Brigham Brough, drummer Nicholas Kinsey and keyboardist/guitarist Wyndham Boylan-Garnett. Ash Wednesday was a gigantic seven years in the making, I really hope we don't have to wait as long for his next offering.

I particularly enjoy the vocals on Ash Wednesday. Seemingly effortless but packed with intensity. Elvis isn't shy from heartache having suffered his father Anthony Perkins (Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho) passing away from Aids in the early 90's and then nearly a decade later, his mother Berry Berenson being onboard one of the flights that crashed into the world trade centre. I don't want to dwell on those two facts because I'm sure Elvis has had enough written about his personal life and not his music. I'd say in this case, the songs do all the talking and I can't wait to hear more of what these guys can offer.

Elvis Perkins has just announced he is going to be playing playing Prospect Park, New York on June 27th.

Burial To Produce Next DJ-Kicks

Thanks to the fine music blog of BrooklynVegan for pointing out that "!K7 are buzzing on the announcement that the next installment in the DJ-Kicks series comes from the hugely acclaimed, underground dubstep producer BURIAL. The South London producer is notoriously shy of press and public performances yet his last two albums on Kode 9's Hyperdub label have established him as one of the global leaders in this exploding scene on word-of-mouth alone."

"The latest DJ-Kicks from Four Tet, Henrik Schwarz, Booka Shade and Hot Chip have all pushed new limits in eclecticism, making linear genre-specific DJ mixes a thing of past... so who knows where Burial will take it next. We hear whisperings from the studio that he may treat his dearest dubstep, techno and even r'n'b tracks with his unique production style before mixing them with exclusive material."

Yipppeeeee! I love a bit of Burial!

"So here's to the future - Burial DJ-Kicks is released out June 23rd on !K7 Records.

Int. Release Date: June 23rd, 2008
U.S. Release Date: July 8th, 2008"

Here's a little of the spine tingling Archangel to keep Tuesday (or whatever day you read this on) going.

Terrible Love Songs Music Quiz & Portishead on LastFM

I've just put together a music quiz, maybe more of a Friday afternoon in the office thing but hey I think quizzes are good anytime! If you think you know a thing or two about more recent music, why not give it a go and get your name at the top of the leader board? Mines up there at the moment but I reckon I had a better chance than most at making it there being as I wrote the questions. Uh hum.

I'm going to find better software for the quiz (ideas anyone?) but this suits for just now.

In other news, if you're a fan of Portishead and haven't got hold of their new album 'Third' yet, they have just put it up on LastFM where you can hear it in it's entirety for free one week before the official release date (28th April). Try clicking here to hear it, I'm interested to know what you think of it.

A link to the most recent quiz will be always added to the Quiz section in the right hand column of this site. I will also publish the answers once a week.

Silent Rave In Union Square, New York

One day I'm going to go to a silent rave.

I've just missed one in Union Square, New York on Friday. Couldn't get there.

Here are some photos from the event posted by ballulah on Flickr.

Ballulah describes the event:

"This was a flashmob style event, all these kids gathered at the south end of Union Square at 6:30...after a countdown they all put their headphones on and had their own private silent raves. Every few minutes or so "the pineapple" would appear and get passed around to the sound of lots of cheering. Beach balls were tossed. Styrofoam was beaten to confetti. Water balloons and/or bottles were tossed upwards. The skaters were very confused. And I swear I heard a kid in raver pants say to his friend, "I have a ton of glowsticks in my pants," and proceeded to pull up his enormous pantleg, and sure enough he had a WHOLE MESS of glowsticks velcroed to his calf. Another guy was singing Foreigner on top of his lungs."

Where you there? Got any good photos, fun experiences you want to share?

Message From Cat Power

Cat Power's MySpace Mesage regarding her vocal chords:

"yeah, phoenix ear nose and throat doctor said
i should take a week off of singing, if i want to
continue touring for the rest of this year,
also, if i don't want to risk ruining my vocal chords permanently, as
i have a callous on the right side of my vocal chords, and a hint of a
new one on the left.
to say yesterday was a very depressing and
upsetting day for me and my band is to say the
very least.
i sincerely apologize for any inconvenience
that this has imposed on anybody.
all i can do is apologize.
i would not wish the way that i felt yesterday
on anybody.
if you need gas money for all that long distance driving to last
night's phoenix show, maybe i can send you a western union wire for
all your gas,
or you could just pawn my c.d.
or throw it out
the window for that matter, how about that,
sound fair?

Caribou Melodies For Your Weekend

I always get really excited when I find music I connect with, that's the joy of music blogging. I have found a tune for your weekend (I hope). It's called 'Melody Day' by Caribou. I also like to research bands a little to get an idea of their history etc and I also found that I have something in common with Caribou (real name Daniel Victor Snaith), we both studied at Imperial College, London. He did maths, I took Physics. OK his was a Ph.D mine was a BSc but that's OK! I think that might be were the similarities end...

Here's the song:

If you like it, you should check out some more of his songs here.
And if they grab you then maybe a live show is the next step - plenty there to chose from!

You can download Gnarls Barkley's latest album 'elpuoC ddO ehT' for free right now but there's one catch... it's backwards.

The Cee-Lo Green and Danger Mouse duo have just released 'elpuoC ddO ehT', the backwards version of 'The Odd Couple', which was released last month.

'elpuoC ddO ehT' is 38 minutes and 45 seconds of backwards grooves all in one track.

If you want to your very own free copy, click here.

It's got a good beat if nothing else...think I might prefer it to the original actually hmmm

Top Ten Songs About Food Or Not As The Case May Be

Todays subject is food and I know someone who knows a thing or two about this subject - Cookiemouse! Every time I visit his blog I end up hungry -you've been warned!

OK so lets get down to business. This morning I was trying to think of all the songs I knew on the subject of food and after a slow start the list just kept expanding. I've managed to narrow it down to my top 10 food songs and they go something like this:

1. R.E.M. - Orange Crush

Orange Crush was the second single from R.E.M.'s sixth studio album, Green, in 1989. It failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 despite reaching #1 on both the Mainstream and Modern Rock Tracks. It peaked at #28 on the UK Singles Charts, easily making it the band's then-highest chart in Britain. It was the sixth song to reach number one on the then-new Modern Rock chart, and was the first single to spend eight weeks in the chart's top position. This record was next matched in 1991 by another R.E.M. song, "Losing My Religion."
Although Orange Crush is the name of a soft drink that predates the song's release by over eighty years, the title may refer to Agent Orange, the defoliant/herbicide used by U.S. forces during the Vietnam War. As a guest on the late-night show Last Call with Carson Daly, Michael Stipe explained that the song was about a young football player leaving the comforts of home for the war in Vietnam. Also, Stipe opens the song on R.E.M. Live by singing the famous U.S. Army recruiting slogan, "Be all you can be... in the army."

I liked R.E.M. when they made songs like this.

Keeping it unreal at Number 2 is Mr Scruff with Fish

Thanks to the youtube poster Keithyyyyy for his outstanding miming skills.

"Fish" was used by Nexus Productions for the Virgin Atlantic safety video, which features the voices of Vic Reeves and Dani Behr.

Moving swiftly onto Number 3. This is not one for the non meat eaters out there, but I'd like to think John Cooper Clarke has something to offer to everyone, here's Evidently Chicken Town. I have not been able to get this song out of my head for about 15 years.

JCC usually refers to himself on stage as "Johnny Clarke, the name behind the hairstyle". Having released a handful of records into the early 1980s, Clarke performed his live act less frequently and spent much of that decade battling a heroin addiction (and making an incongruous appearance in two UK commercial for Sugar Puffs in 1988, taking second billing to the Honey Monster).

Number 4 , Prince And The New Power Generation - Cream

Watch out, the little man makes saucy videos!

Prince (Rogers Nelson) claims that he wrote this song while standing in front of a mirror.

At Number 5, here's Fat Les with Vindaloo.

Fat Les created the En-ger-land national football anthem "Vindaloo" as an unofficial theme song for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. The song was a sort of homage to the lighter English football culture stereotypes: lager drinking, curry eating 'lads' passionate about football, the sort who visit exotic holiday destinations only to watch English football matches all afternoon via satellite in English themed pubs. The song reached number two in the UK charts. The promo video was a parody of a video by The Verve for "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and along with the band members features Paul Kaye, Rowland Rivron, Ed Tudor-Pole, Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

Yes the slightly balding guy is Lily Allen's dad Keith Allen.

In at Number 6 is the rather bitter tasting Lemon by U2.

The allusion to film in the "Lemon" video was apparently partially based from the fact that the song was conceived after Bono watched an old filmstrip of his late mother. The song's lyrics are about using film to recreate and preserve memory.

Fancy a bit of nostalgia? Number 7 is The Beatles with Strawberry Fields Forever
Great Video! Warning-there are some flashing lights.

The song gave its name to the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York City's Central Park, near the site of Lennon's murder at The Dakota apartment building.

Strawberry Field was the name of a Salvation Army Children's Home just around the corner from Lennon's boyhood home in the Woolton suburb of Liverpool.

Number 8, Splodgenessabounds - Two Pints of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps Please

Now on this occasion, I'm not going to put a video up of this exact song, I'm going to use this opportunity to add a video from the BBC Comedy Series, Two Pints of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps. In case you haven't guessed, this is a take off of Sean Paul.

Onto Number 9 Spitting Image - The Chicken Song.

Remember this? Only just forgotten it?

An E.P. of the Chicken Song was also released. The extended "12 hour" version contained numerous random repetitions of the verses and chorus at times when the song appears to be over. When the track is actually finished and the stylus reaches the end of the run-out groove, the first bar of the song is constantly repeated in the final locked-groove in order to irritate the listener even further. The B-side of this contained I've Never Met A Nice South African and a parody of Phil Collins called Hello, You Must Be Going.

And last but not least, Number 10. The scene from "Down by Law" by Jim Jarmusch where Jack, Zack and Roberto sing the hilarious "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream"!

Now I'm hungry and must go and have my tea.

Can you think of anymore to add to the list?

Happy Anniversary MOON SAFARI !

To celebrate the band's illustrious first 10 years, in which they have enjoyed many career-defining moments and countless critical accolades, Virgin is proud to present this expanded, deluxe version of 'Moon Safari'.

This strictly limited edition release is a 3-disc package wrapped up in a collector case bound book (DVD-size).

Disc 1 features the seminal debut album while the 10-track second Disc includes rarities, remixes (Beck, Moog Cookbook) and key songs from radio sessions recorded during 1998 on both sides of the Atlantic. Disc 3 - a DVD - is the hour-long Mike Mills documentary 'Eating, Sleeping, Waiting and Playing' filmed in New York, London and Paris during Air's first tour.

I like this album and would recommend anyone who has never heard of it to try it out. Music wasn't all that bad 10 years ago hey! Just can't find where I left the last 10 years. I wonder who'll be releasing such an album in 10 years from now? Moon Safari 20th Anniversary?! Any suggestions, please leave a comment.

Portishead To Stream New Album On Last Fm Week Before Official Release

NME are reporting Portishead will be streaming their new album Third online a week before it's official release date April 28th. The album will be streamed on music website Last.fm from April 21st. Apparently, the songs will be free to listen to online but people will have to pay to download the tracks. Incidentally, this will be the first time Last.fm has made an entire album available to the public before its official release.

I'm assuming this is also in response to the leakage of their new album onto the Internet a few weeks ago.

Guitarist Adrian Utley in a recent interview with Billboard about the new album said “It sounds nothing like 'Dummy' or 'Portishead', but it’s definitely its older brother or sister. It’s the same mindset we’ve always had, only further down the road.

Record Store Day - April 19th, 2008

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, hundreds of independently owned music stores across the world will celebrate “Record Store Day.”

On this day, all of these stores will simultaneously link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally. To check out whether anything is going on at a record store near you, click here.

As an example, Rough Trade East, London (who incidentally have just been awarded the title of Best High Street Retail Store of the Year at the annual Music Week Awards)
have organised quite a day looking something like this:

2.00 - 12.20 / VIRGIN PASSAGES
"This UK sextet are turning heads. They take you on a journey through pastoral chamber-pop, electronica and psych folk without losing their melody."

12.35 - 12.55 / EUGENE MCGUINNESS
"Singer songwriter Eugene McGuinness makes lush pop music which features all manner of iodiosyncratic inflections making traditional troubadour music with a twist."

1.10 - 1.30 / IDLE LOVERS
"The Idle Lovers are a new-wave pop band that make perfectly crafted, urgent, impassioned pop songs."

1.45 - 2.05 / JASON MOLINA
"Famed for being the lynchpin of bands Songs: Ohio and later Magnolia Electric Co, Jason has a massive global fanbase - most of which probably wish they were at Rough Trade East on the 19th."

2.20 - 2.40 / THE METROS
"Jauntily upbeat and infectious with nagging guitar refrain, rolling drums and call-and-response vocals, there's no mistaking these lads are from London."

2.55 - 3.15 / VEILS
"The Veils manage to effortlessly meld progressive urban rock with sprawling folk balladry with magical results."

3.30 - 3.50 / LYKKE LI
"Lykke Li is the latest big news from Sweden with her, raw, intimate and stunning debut album "Youth Novels". The 21 year old also sang on Peter, Bjorn and John's infectious hit "Young Folks""

4.05 - 4.25 / MAKE MODEL
"Make Model is what happens when six Glaswegians have spent too many boozy late nights on each other's sofas listening to records joining the dots between pop, post-rock via no wave and the odd sliver of German electronica."

4.40 - 5.00 / BALTIC FLEET
"The debut album from Baltic Fleet swerves from haunting piano pieces, full of melancholy to driving upbeat kraut inspired propulsive grooves. Early contender for one of Rough Trade's albums of the year."

5.00 - 6.00 / SCHMIDT & KUMO
"DJ set by Irmin Schmidt, founder of the influential experimental rock group Can, and breakbeat pioneer Kumo - playing tracks from their new album Axolotl Eyes (release 14.4.08), exclusive remixes, remastered Can material and gems from the Spoon records archive."

6.00 - 6.40 / BILLY BRAGG
"Billy Bragg is playing at Rough Trade East - nuff said !!!!"

6.40 - 8.40 / FLYING LOTUS VS PIVOT DJS VS WARP DJS
"To bring a great date to a close we leave it in the more than capable hands of the Warp boys. Forever pushing the envelope, these electronic pioneers will take no prisoners."

And over on the other side of the pond, well and a long car ride, Amoeba Records in San Francisco are holding a day that looks something like this so far:

JELLO BIAFRA LIVE AT THE INFO COUNTER -- 4pm
"The political activist, co-founder of record label Alternative Tentacles, and former lead singer and songwriter for seminal punk band Dead Kennedys sits in at Amoeba SF’s Information counter from 4pm – 5pm. Stop by and get some excellent recommendations from this Bay Area legend."

A-TRAK DJ Set (CANCELLED)
"A-Trak is a producer, artist, DJ/turntablist, and was the winner of the 1997 DMCs World DJ at the age of 15. He also works with Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Kid Sister when he’s not remixing dance music heavyweights such as Boys Noize, SMD, and Digitalism."

Aaron Axelsen (LIVE 105 / Popscene) DJ Set -- 6pm
"Veteran LIVE 105 DJ, creator of long-running club night Popscene, and the man behind B.F.D. DJs from his own personal vault of classics & current gems."

PLUS...
"GET AN AMOEBA $15 GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR FREE!!! - Scion is giving away $15 gift certificates to Amoeba Music! Just stop by the Scion event across the street from Amoeba SF and take a new Scion for a spin; a $15 gift certificate is yours free, no strings attached! Zooom!

Purchase any new or used item at any Amoeba location & receive a FREE gift bag loaded with CD samplers, buttons, stickers and other cool items from your favorite record labels and artists, while supplies last!

Pick up some exclusive Record Store Day Vinyl from Death Cab for Cutie, REM, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Black Keys, Vampire Weekend & loads more!"

"I buy CDs all the time. I'll go into a record store and just buy $500 worth of CDs. I will! I am singlehandedly supporting what's left of the record business.

I hate to see record stores disappear, and I'm old-school in that I think you should pay for your music. But what my kids do is download a lot of things, pay for them, and then if they love something, they'll get the CD. That may be the future.”

Bruce Springsteen (The Boss)

"Yes, yes, I know. It's easier to download music, and probably cheaper. But what's playing on your favourite download store when you walk into it?

Nothing, that's what. Who are you going to meet in there? Nobody. Where are the notice boards offering flatshares and vacant slots in bands destined for superstardom? Who's going to tell you to stop listening to that and start listening to this? Go ahead and save yourself a couple of quid. The saving will cost you a career, a set of cool friends, musical taste and, eventually, your soul. Record stores can't save your life. But they can give you a better one."

Nick Hornby (Author, High Fidelity, Slam)

Yeasayer On Later With Jools Holland

Bit behind on some news but thought it was worth giving the superb Yeasayer performance on the Later with Jools Holland show a mention. I went to see these guys at the London ICA last month and I love them!

Click here for a link to the Interview of the sound check on the Jools Holland Show and here for the whole show (Think this BBC iplayer link will only work in the UK, sorry folks!)

On the shows website, Yeasayer are described as
"New York indie alternatives Yeasayer blend multi-part harmonies with a smattering of religious chant to create rhapsodic tunes that emanate from the most unlikely looking of 4-pieces. Describing themselves as "Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel", their polyrhythmic bizarreries are gaining them the recognition they deserve this side of the pond."

They sure do and they sure are!

Here is a performance of 2080 (not on Jools Holland)

and here is a really sweet Bodhran accompaniment to the same song (2080) in response to their performance on the Jools Holland show by a you tube performer.

Songs in Graphs

Tuk Tuk Tunes

Settling back into London life and almost unpacked. Blogging with eyes half open and a craving for hot and sour soup. Here's a video I made of a Tuk Tuk ride from my recent trip to Bangkok to give you a flavour of Chalky's Travels:

But what was the song called?

I'll post the answer soon...

Fly Me To The Moon

I am sitting in Hong Kong airport waiting for my flight back to London. My flight was originally with Oasis but they went into liquidation yesterday so I feel lucky to have a way of getting back today even if it is one day earlier than scheduled. This brings me to the topic of todays blog, flying.
My first choice of songs is U2's The Fly, topical for me because not only for obvious reasons but I have also been chomped on loads of times by blood thristy mosquitos and have very itchy legs.

Second up, (and this might be the last choice because my battery is failing me miserably) here is Aprils 'Terrible Love Song', Westlife Flying Without Wings

And in memory of Oasis Airline, here's Oasis with Wonderwall
