'Music Lives On The Internet' - Interview #4

Here we are at interview #4 of the 'Music Lives On The Internet' interview series.

For those of you who haven't read one of these before, this is a regular slot where I interview fellow music bloggers/lovers to give you the reader a chance to hear about new bands, good music blogs, great venues and their views on the music business.

Name: Brendan Losch

Blog/Website Name: Count Me Out (http://countmeoutblog.blogspot.com)

What is your blog/website about?
Basically I just share news, be it mp3s, videos, streams, tour dates, album reviews, etc., on bands that I dig, with the hope that others may check it out. I'm also a singer/songwriter and have made a goal for myself to write/record/post one brand new song a week on my blog.

What started you blogging?
Well I had been writing things here and there on a personal blog for a few years and have always been searching out news on music blogs, so I decided it was time to start my own music blog.

First record you bought?
Hmm, not totally for sure, but I do recall buying, on cassette, Blood Sugar Sex Magik by The Red Hot Chili Peppers at a very young age.

Last piece of music that got your heart racing?
Hmm, let's go with Nina Kinert's new album, Pets & Friends. It's a very solid record and one of my favorites from 2008 so far.

Last gig that made you say "Wow"?
Dr. Dog's live set is pretty fantastic. Saw them at Schubas with Rogue Wave on August 1st.

Where do you find out about new music?
Mostly music blogs, but then occasionally through emails, myspace, shows, friends, etc.

What would you like to see more of in the music world?
I guess I would say that I wish people were a little more open minded with music. There is so much good music out there that goes unheard. I realize everyone is different and has their own interests, but I feel like too many people don't even give some styles/types of music a chance. It's just so discouraging that commercialized music becomes as popular as it does. Along the same lines, I also wish people would attend shows more often.

Favorite music venue?
Well this may be a little biased since I've haven't been to too many venues outside of Chicago. There are a bunch of quality venues here, but I would say my favorite is Schubas, both to play at and view a show.

Favourite music store?
Don't really go to too many music stores. Back in high school though, I would frequently visit the old Record Breakers in Hoffman Estates.

Which blogs do you read?
I read quite a few blogs daily, but I would say my favorites would be Stereogum , Pitchfork, Muzzle Of Bees, You Ain't No Picasso, and Brooklyn Vegan.

What songs would you include on the soundtrack to your life?
Hmm, too much time/thinking needs to go into this one, however a few that I can think of off the top of my head would be (in no specific order):

Sufjan Stevens
- Romulus
Fionn Regan - Be Good Or Be Gone
Pax 217 - Until The Sun
Panda Bear - I'm Not
Wilco & Billy Bragg - At My Window Sad And Lonely
Switchfoot - Let That Be Enough
Coldplay - Help Is Around The Corner
Ferraby Lionheart - Won't Be Long
Ryan Adams - Oh My Sweet Carolina
Spoon - The Way We Get By

In 10 years time music will be....
Music.

If you could have 3 musicians over to your place, they would be...
Another tough one. Not really sure how to take this question either. Would the person be living/dead? Would we be creating music together, or just hanging out? Hmm, there are so many to choose from. I'll just go with Daniel Rossen, Annie Clark, and Juana Molina.

A huge THANK YOU to Brendan for taking part.

Be sure to check out his blog: http://countmeoutblog.blogspot.com which has now been added to my Music Blog link list so no excuses!

Brendan, here's Dr. Dog especially for you!
