DIG, LAZARUS, DIG!!! Myspace album exclusive!

If you are a little curious about the new Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds album Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!, now is a great time to check out his my space page and listen to the new album in it's entirety for free. I guess if you like it, go out and buy it, if you don't, no harm done, you still have your money and no one has been ripped off, a nice approach which is why I'm writing about it here.

Also don't forget Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds will be performing live and then signing copies of their new album at HMV, 150 Oxford Street, London Monday 3rd March (release date) at 6pm.

As far as the new album goes, I was wishing they would have moved on from the biblical references by now. Jury is still out, will write more when I've had a chance to listen a bit more. What do you think of it?

Air Re-release Moon Safari 10 Years On

What did I love about the 90's? Being at Uni, still enjoying that lift off moment of being on an aeroplane (this was before I traveled for work) and Moon Safari by Air. If it's not already in your cd/mp3/vinyl/whatver next collection on March 31st, 2008 Virgin Records (and April 15 in the U.S. on Astralwerks) will release a reissue to mark the album's 10-year anniversary. This limited edition album will come with a bound book, a DVD documentary about the French duo called "Air: Eating, Sleeping, Waiting & Playing" a 60-minute chronicle of Air's first tour, an extra CD with live performances and remixes and some previously unseen album graphics by Mike Mills.

So here's the run down on the contents of this limited SPECIAL Air release:

Moon Safari:

01 La Femme d'Argent
02 Sexy Boy
03 All I Need
04 Kelly Watch the Stars
05 Talisman
06 Remember

03 Album graphics

If you can get your chops round that lot and still want more, you can catch Air on tour at the following venues:

03-27 Perth, Australia - King's Park
03-29 Sydney, Australia - Centennial Park (V Festival)
03-30 Gold Coast, Australia - Avica Resort (V Festival)
03-31 Brisbane, Australia - Tivoli
04-03 Adelaide, Australia - Thebarton Theatre
04-06 Sydney, Australia - Opera House

Guess it helps if you're in Australia to begin with or a very nice idea if you're planning on backpacking through.

So without further a do, lets take a trip down memory lane and treat ourselves to a little blast of that classic ever so Sexy Boy.

If you had to pick your favourite albums from the 90's which ones would you chose?

P.S. Currently spending a lot of time in a part of the country lacking wi-fi connections i.e. hospital waiting rooms so please don't expect to much from me over the next few days. Also, I am blogging off my incredibly tiny but amazingly useful and light eee pc so if there are lots of typos, sorry, my fingers are getting used to the small keyboard.

Fans Riot At Akon Appearance In Shopping Mall

Does this headline make sense to you? I do confess to not really knowing much about Akons' overall contribution to music but when I hear a song like this...

...first the song makes me feel a bit queasy and second, I really find it difficult to believe the following report from the NME website:

"...Akon was at the centre of another controversy on Wednesday (February 20) when fans rioted during an appearance by him at a Danish shopping mall.

The fans became disgruntled at being evacuated from the show due to a fire alarm.

The show was held at the Fields Shopping Mall in Copenhagen, which holds around 1,000 people but 2,000 showed up.

When the fire alarm sounded, police ushered the cr
owd out of the
shopping centre, prompting the crowd to revolt and to throw bottles and rocks at the police. Several injuries were reported but none serious.

The fire alert was a false alarm."

It seems the little kid in the video is one of Akon's better behaved fans!

What on earth happened here? Was Sunny D promoting the event? And tell me where do you find rocks in a shopping mall?!

Were you there? Would you own up to having been there? Is this your local shopping mall? Did all this really happen?

Happy Birthday From Cat Power

Yesterday I received this message from Chan of CAT POWER on my myspace page:

heh heh

There I was thinking somehow CAT POWER had been clever and used some sort of software to send mails like this out to myspace users when it's their birthday as a publicity ploy and I read this on the Life's Bathroom Music Blog. So basically pretty much everyone got it and by chance it happened to be sent out on my birthday. CAT POWER, for a moment I thought you really cared and that I was really lucky sob sob...

All Points West Festival Lineup Announced

The All Points West Festival will be served up on August 8-10th in Jersey City's Liberty State Park and the initial line up has been announced.

Radiohead are headlining twice (yep-twice!) and who's that I've circled on the list, why it's our little Duffy. Her career seems to be moving at an astounding pace -she's the current Number One best selling single in the UK right now with her Motown esk debut single Mercy and her new Album Rockferry isn't even released until March 3rd. It was only last month I wrote an article titled Have you heard of Duffy yet? It seems news is traveling fast. With such a great voice one comment I have to make is I hope for her sake she doesn't get pigeon holed into the Sounds Like Motown category before she gets a chance to prove herself as a talented professional singer. Check out her performance on Later with Jools Holland.

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds Signing Copies Of New Album

To promote the release of their new album DIG, LAZARUS, DIG!!! Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds will be performing live and then signing copies of the new album at HMV, 150 Oxford Street, LONDON on Monday 3rd March at 6.00pm.

Please note: due to time restrictions, access to meet the band will be limited to 300 fans only. Wristbands that allow access to the queue to get a signed album will be given away from the store on the day of the event from 9.00am on a first-come first-served basis, one wristband per customer only, no reservations. Basically if you're a hard core fan, there's going to be a lot more hard core fans trying to get there first and you might have to use the 'elbows forward sly shuffle technique' to get any where near meeting Mista Cave.

In addition, Nick and his non reforming seeds have added a third night at London's Hammersmith Apollo on Friday 9th May. Tickets go on sale at 9 am on Monday 25th February.

Who Was At Number One When You Were Born?

Today is my birthday and I thought it would be fun to check out who was at number one on the actual day of my birth. I was hoping for a cool tune being a music blogger n'all, so I used this website to check it all out:

Here are my results:

UK Number One Single: Leo Sayer - "When I Need You"
US Number One Single: Eagles - "New Kid In Town"

Well, umm not quite what I was hoping for but I suppose it could have been worse and in the spirit of the name of this blog, maybe now we can see where my influences came from -it was beyond my control!

So who was at number one when you were born?

I guess I have to add the video so here it is, Leo Sayer - When I Need You. Check out the people in the background around 2mins, there's Leo being all cool and then they wander into the background-nice budget video :-)

Total random bits of info:

On this day in 1947 the Polaroid camera was demonstrated for the first time by its inventor, Edwin Land and the phrase "take a Polaroid" entered the English language.

Famous people born on February 21st include:

Nina Simone 1933
David Geffen 1943

(I'm sure there are many more!)

There are 314 days remaining until the end of the year

On this day in 1952 The British government, under Winston Churchill, abolished Identity Cards in the UK to "set the people free"

On this day in 1960 Cuban leader Fidel Castro nationalized all businesses in Cuba

Whatever you're doing, have a great day.

To help you with that here's one of my all time favourite performers, Nina Simone with Feeling Good

Jacob Golden needs no drums

I've been trying to not like Jacob Golden because I liked his music the moment I heard it. Does what I just said make any sense? Ever get that feeling if you like a song instantly, there's a good chance you're going to grow sick of it really soon? I get that a lot with this music stuff, it makes me feel vulnerable to saying stupid things like "I like Vampire Weekend".

So Jacob Golden entered my life a week ago in the form of this video Out Come The Wolves from his album Revenge Songs.

I can't actually pretend to understand what he's actually singing about on times in this song with lyrics such as:

"Out come the wolves

The hunting of our great American Idols

But the ants will march until their queen has come

Goddamn, downtown, James Brown

What’s taken you so long?

Your kids are starving"

Since then I've been trying to shake the urge to hear him again and I simply can't! The other tracks on Revenge Songs are equally atmospheric, I feel like he's in my living room singing to me, it's personal. I like the way he sings in accent, almost a little Michael Stipe-esk in that respect but easier on the ear mixed with some Simon and Garfunkel flavour. The sudden bursts of racing energy injected into his songs provided by just an acoustic guitar and vocals (no drums) and a great big dollop of Californian sunshine. Hope you haven't lost me in that description. What I'm trying to say but tripping over my tongue in doing so is go out and buy this album! It's truly lovely and haunting and deserves to be heard. I can't wait to catch this guy when he comes over to the UK next.

If you're in the US, here are some dates for the diary:

13 Mar 2008 20:00 Club Deville SXSW BMI Showcase Austin, Texas
15 Mar 2008 15:00 Momo’s - SXSW with David Ford and others! Austin, Texas
15 Mar 2008 20:00 St. David’s Church with Jim James of My Morning Jacket Austin, Texas

Hot Chip Competition News

News is out that Hot Chip have a competition running to win tickets to see them play live in New York.

Basically from what I can gather, you need to play a game on their website and apparently the player at the top of the scoreboard at midnight on March 31st wins 2 return flights to New York, 3 nights accommodation and 2 tickets to see Hot Chip live at Terminal 5 NYC on April 12th. Not bad!

All the terms and conditions and the offer itself can be found here and is only open to UK residents.

Good Luck!

Here's a classic from those Hot Chips with Over And Over

Malakai's Simple Song

I'm really enjoying the sound of Malakai. How can I describe it, Bristol dub roots with a mixture of crazyiness, a 60's, 70's sound -I can even hear a slight Lenny Kravitz flavour (only the good bits though) supporting the distinctive vocals provided by singer Gee . To be honest, I can't quite put my finger on their sound right now but I will be back with more about these guys, they're too good to forget!

Here's an interview with Malakai from

Wonder why I'm making a noise about this band? Check out their MySpace page and listen to Simple Song, The Story of Malakai and Another Sun. Simple Song makes chills run down my spine-it's so good!

At present, the back catalogue only consists of two singles: Fading World and EP1 both released last year but according to their MySpace page, they will hopefully be bringing a new album out in April this year.

Really refreshing music. Can't wait to catch them live-when are you coming to London guys?

Share my thoughts on Malakai? Disagree? Leave a comment and get yourself heard.

AmpLive, Yeasayer And A Trip To The Hospital?

After a few days of rushing about like a mad woman I'm back. I hoped to be able to bring you news of Radiohead's outstanding tour dates but just like the name of their web site, there is nothing but Dead Space next to a lot of US and Canadian Dates. Stay posted, I'm sure they will be released soon. While on the subject of Radiohead, due to the crazy travel situation of the last few days, I had time to blast out AmpLive's Rainydayz remixes on my car stereo and I can honestly say that quite a few of these tracks have grown on me -my favorite being Faustz. Has anyone else been listening to this remix album? Would like to know what you think. It's free to download here.

Good to see one of my favorite up and coming bands Yeasayer have made it onto the Conan O'Brian show in the States, Here's some footage of their fantastic performance of 2080:

Note: I noticed people trying to view this blog through IE6 or IE 5.5 are probably can't see the You Tube videos so here's the link instead and I'm trying to sort this problem out ASAP.

Really looking forward to seeing these guys play at The ICA in London on March 10th.

Last up for now, if you're an Elbow fan, they are set to play Q Magazine's monthly 'Q The Music Live At The Hospital' show at The Hospital in Covent Garden, London.

The band will take to the stage at 8pm on Wednesday May 21. Admission is free, with tickets being assigned via lottery.

If you'd like fancy being there simply email with your name and contact details, making sure to include Elbow in the subject heading. Your name will then be entered into a lottery. More information can be found at The winners will be notified on or before May 9th.

If you've never been to The Hospital before, here are a couple of photos I took yesterday on my way to work. The second photo is a Banksy on the pavement outside left over from a recent exhibition held there.

Loads more to tell you, check back later!

"I Don't Want Your Money Honey I Want Your Love"

Valentine's Day is almost upon us and as we think about sending cards, getting ripped off in crappy restaurants and for the die hard romantics amongst us, just doing what you do normally because you don't need a special day in the year to say you love each other, I thought I should choose a couple of classic songs about the big L.

First up she doesn't want your money honey, she wants your love! It's Tranvision Vamp and the sexy Wendy James. Forget those over priced restaurants, flowers and chocs -ummm OK leave out the chocolate, I NEVER turn down chocolate - oh husband?!

Next, an alternative Valentine's Song from Roxy Music-In Every Dream Home A Heartache (which is actually about doing it with a blow up doll!)

Here's Arcade Fire with Crown Of Love - a song about breaking up.

Wow, I'm exhausted after that last track there - I think I need something a little more lighthearted- this my favorite Bob Marley track - Could you be loved, enjoy!

Hopefully there was something in there for everyone no matter where you're at.

Now Terrible Love Songs wouldn't be Terrible Love Songs without a well, a Terrible Love Song.
To end this post I'm bringing you a true classic TLS, Michael Bolton with How Am I Supposed To Live Without You. Arghhhh!!! Easily Michael!

Looking for things to do tomorrow? I noticed there is a night on at The Old Blue Post called My Ex-Boyfriends Records where "Scorned female DJs will be spinning eclectic, alternative records stolen from their ex-boyfriends' alongside sets from Maximo Park and Good Shoes DJs." And there's a kissing booth in Selfridges in London. If you really must you can dress up in one of Selfridges' Victorian costumes and get your photograph taken kissing your loved one.

My next post might not be for a few days but I will be back I promise.

Peace and Love man.

Happy Valentines Day

After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive's Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Well, here they are.

While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publicly available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. Effective immediately, the eight-track record is available here.

"To Terrible Love Songs from Anton Corbijn"

Yesterday (Feb 11th) saw the UK release of the Joy Division biopic Control on DVD. I went along to HMV on Oxford Street in London to meet the director of the film Anton Corbjin who was signing copies of the DVD and his new book In Control. I am very pleased to announce Terrible Love Songs now has its very own signed Control poster (see above) proudly placed on the wall at TLS HQ.

I'm always fascinated to see who turns up to an event like this, yesterday it was a good mix of young and slightly older, pierced and non pierced, big hair, small hair, male and female. One guy I met in the queue told me he had been a huge Joy Division fan for over 20 years and hadn't watched the movie in a cinema yet because he knew he would find it too upsetting. Considering Ian Curtis's life was so short, it's easy to see his impact is still very much alive. R.I.P. Ian Curtis.

A date for the U.S. DVD release hasn't been set, but Amazon's online store and CD Universe claims the scheduled release date to be March 25th, 2008. The Australian DVD store lists a release date as March 12th on their website.

Control has won or been nominated for the following Awards:

BAFTA Carl Foreman Award for the Most Promising Newcomer
Chicago International Film Festival Silver Hugo Award for Best Screen Play

BAFTA Best British Film
BAFTA Best New Writer
British Independent Film Awards Best Screenplay
London Critics Circle Film Awards British Breakthrough - Filmmaking

And Sam Riley has won British Independent Film Award for "Most Promising Newcomer" for playing the of Ian Curtis.

Daft Punk Make First TV Appearance EVER At Grammys

Daft Punk and Kayne West gave this performance of Stronger at yesterdays Grammys. It was Daft Punks first ever TV appearance(They've been around for 14 years!). But just what are Daft Punk actually doing with those screens?! Ah well, it looks good :-) Shame about Kayne West's singing. Keep watching, Daft Punk are revealed at about 2min 33.

Those suits really remind me of the Kraftwerk concert I went to a few years ago.

Here's the Chipmunks version of Stronger:

Anti-Nazi Gig Will Be "Biggest in Years!"

I was absolutely disgusted to receive a BNP propaganda leaflet through my letterbox a couple of days ago. If only I had caught the idiot delivering them. I must have so narrowly missed them, the sad thing is, I'm sure they'll be back. So as I hope you can imagine, I was really glad to hear the biggest anti-racism music event in London for 30 years will be taking place this April. The event will mark the 30th anniversary of the Rock Against Racism carnival and will take place in London's Victoria Park on April 27th, 2008.

The Anti Nazi League is campaigning again in the name of Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) - a demonstration of the positive energy of the music scene against the hate-fueled beliefs of the British National Party, National Front and Combat 18. Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) was set up in 2002 in response to rising levels of racism and electoral successes for the Nazi British National Party (BNP). The campaign have already stated that one of the main aims of the event will be to inspire thousands today to vote against racism in the Greater London Assembly which takes place weeks after the event.

Details about the LMHR Carnival form the LMHR website:

So far, Rock act Babyshambles will headline and the event will be sponsored by the trade union Unite.

The 2008 Carnival will be FREE to get into (subject to license), but we will be asking you to make a donation towards the considerable costs of the event.

The Carnival will have three stages - two outdoor live music stages and a large DJ marquee.

The line-up will be announced very soon. Also watch out for a special Carnival 08 website which will be launched in the next few days.

There will be music from across the board on the day with top names, unique collaborations, and exciting up-and-coming acts providing something for everyone. Stars of the ‘78 event and the RAR era already confirmed to appear include Tom Robinson, The Specials’ Jerry Dammers, and ace filmmaker and Clash collaborator Don Letts.

There is a wealth of information about how YOU can help support Love Music Hate Racism on their website. Get involved!

Terrible Love Songs will try to keep you up to date on the latest announcements over the coming days.

Here is a flyer with more information about the Carnival:

New Releases And Things To Know About For The Week Ahead

Here's my two penneth (two cents) for the week ahead.

Tomorrow (Feb 11th) is your chance to purchase your very own copy of the Joy Division Biopic Control and if you find yourself in the HMV on Oxford Street in central London tomorrow around 6pm, you might be lucky enough to get your DVD signed by the film director Anton Corbijn.

London based duo The Superimposers release their third album Harpsichord Treacle tomorrow (Feb 11th). My favorite song, Autumn Falls. Think The Beach Boys meets The Beatles meets Air meets something in 1950's America.

Last up, an 'up'n'under' from a band that I believe deserve a listen. Pete And The Pirates, a Reading based band producing great pop songs and definitely ones to watch this year. Catch their new single Mr Understanding out tomorrow (Feb 11th) from their forthcoming album Little Death (Release Date 18th Feb.). They are also doing on instore gig at Rough Trade East on Feb 18th, to get on the guest list, try here.

Here's one of their tracks Lost In The Woods to give you a flavour for their sound although I'd really recommend listening to the song Bright Lights on their myspace site:

Here's their sound check out the Rough Trade East Store:

This is what happens when Amy is off her watch...

Lastly, if you're fancying a drink in the celeb hang out The Hawley Arms in Camden this week, don't bother, it's not really there any more after a fire ripped through the heart of Camden Market in North London last night. A stray cigarette maybe? Who knows. To be honest, as pubs go it cost to much and wasn't really meant for the likes of you and I to start with. I'd have probably been staring too much and been asked to leave anyway. One less pub to avoid is one way of looking at it.
On a more serious note, I'm glad no one was injured.

David Jordan Is Following Me EVERYWHERE I Go!

I first heard David Jordan on my car radio when I was unlucky enough to be stuck in traffic in the Feltham suburb of West London. As some of you may know, being stuck in Feltham isn't a particularly lusted after situation but since that day, my life has been haunted by David Jordan's new 'song' Sun Goes Down, to say it straight, the song is following me! I hear it whenever I turn on my radio, in shops and today was more than I could cope with. Picture me standing in Currys (UK Electronics Retail Store) looking through the set top boxes, I turn around and this is what I see...

...not just one but at least 17 TVs showing THAT BLOODY SONG! What have I done to deserve this? It's just awful!

If you haven't heard it, congrats! If you REALLY HAVE TO hear what it sounds like, here it is:

Slow Kylie down and you get... George Michael!

RobManuel has posted a video on YouTube investigating what happens when you slow down the Kylie song More More More from her album, Fever. The result is quite creepily George Michael!
Yep and if don't believe me, have a listen and decide for yourself :-)

Glastonbury Giants Line Up

Lets see how the Glastonbury line up is looking so far:

Jay Z

Leonard Cohen
I had previously announced that Leonard is back but Glasto is the first gig he has announced. I guess when you're Leonard Cohen you can do this kind of a come back!

Hot Chip
No surprise there!

Neil Diamond

British Sea Power
These Brighton Rockers were on Jools Holland's show last night-wasn't very enamoured by their live performance.

Kings of Leon

The Verve

Not a bad looking lineup so far, definitely varied!

Need help or got questions on getting tickets for Glastonbury? Here's the link to the Official Glastonbury Ticket Registration Site

Anyone twelve or under on June 25th 2008 does not need a ticket and therefore need not register

Gnarls Barkley New Album Release Date- The Odd Couple

Gnarls Barkley i.e.Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) from New York, and rapper/vocalist Cee-Lo Green (Thomas Callaway) are to release their new album in the US called The Odd Couple on April 15th. Apparently The Odd Couple features more live musicians than their sample-heavy 2006 debut St Elsewhere.

If you haven't heard their next single Run (taken of the new album), here it is:

Looking forward to hearing this album, the new single Run is growing on me the more often I hear it but wasn't as instant a "YES, I really like this" as Crazy was. Lets see if they can get past the dreaded second album syndrome-I'm not convinced yet. Any thoughts on the new single?

I haven't heard that tune before, what kinda music do you call that?

A YouTube user called 13STRINGS set a challenge to encourage YouTube users to film themselves playing their homemade instruments and to post their responses on YouTube.

So you think you've seen it all and then these guys come along...

This one you need to dance REALLY loose limbed to but there's a tune in there! Bit of a Jack Dee impression as well

This one makes me feel a little sick

Nice sound kid!

Chilled out maaan

Hot Chip's new song

Vampire Weekend anyone?

Something to do with your old Prince records

And finally...

Yes we're all had them, singing taps!

Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison

Time for Classic Moment when I put aside all new music and blow a bit of Internet dust of an amazing old track that's well worth digging up and taking for a spin- today it's Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues from 1959. A song I think everyone should have heard at least once in their lifetime.

Lean back, take a deep breath and relax, put those feet up and enjoy.

Kurt Cobain Film 'About A Son' UK DVD Release Date

After much sifting around through the Internet I have finally found the UK release date for the film about the late Kurt Cobain About A Son on DVD.

The US release date is February 19th.

Rotten Tomatoes is currently giving it a 74% rating which is pretty decent.

Here's the synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes:

"An intimate and moving meditation on the late musician and artist Kurt Cobain, based on more than 25 hours of previously unheard audiotaped interviews conducted with Cobain by noted music ournalist Michael Azerrad for his book "Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana." In the film, Kurt Cobain recounts his own life - from his childhood and adolescence to his days of musical discovery and later dealings with explosive fame - and offers often piercing insights into his life, music, and times. The conversations heard in the film have never before been made public and they reveal a highly personal portrait of an artist much discussed but not particularly well understood."

One to pop in the diary if you're a Nirvana fan.

Here's a little blast from past in the form of Lithium:

Punk your Mind to ABX

There's one tune right now that can't fail to get me moving around my living room doing silly dances and bashing my bongos, it's ABX's Punk your mind (Styles P vs Vampire Weekend)

Every now and then I love a good VS (The Hood Internet has loads).

Try it for yourself, Here's an MP3 link to Punk Your Mind from

Bring Back Big Boom Boxes And Burgundy - Moby's been busy

So what's the little guy been up to?

He composed the entire music score for the David E. Kelly film (Donnie Darko) film Southend Tales -(that's not the Southend in Essex).

Here's a clip Moby talking up the movie:

If you're a budding Independent and non-profit filmmaker, film student, or anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video, or short you should check out the Moby Gratis section of his Website. You can then listen to the available music and download whatever you want to use in your film or video or short.
The music is free as long as it's being used in a non-commercial or non-profit film, video, or short.
If you want to use it in a commercial film or short then you can apply for an easy license, with any money that's generated being given to the humane society.

But the BIG news, he's got his sixth studio album coming out on March 31st (UK) and April 1st (US) called Last Night. The album was recorded in Moby's home studio in Manhattan NY and features a number of guest vocalists and includes the original 70's mc grandmaster caz one of the writers of rappers delight, sylvia from kudu, the uk's aynzli jones plus Smokey and SO Simple from the nigerian 419 squad.

Moby's comments on the album:
'"last night" is basically a love letter to dance music in new york city. what i love about the new york approach to dance music is the eclecticism and the open minded-ness on the part of the musicians, the dj's, and the people in the bars and clubs. in making 'last night' i essentially tried to take a long 8 hour night out in new york city and condense it into a 65 minute long album.'

Here's a link to the album sampler "last night" (on which was released on the Moby website for a limited time.

I'm enjoying this sample -its got make's-me-want-to-dance-thumping-beats, hip hop-py, old skool vibe with a non mistakable Moby style running throughout, strong female vocals, keyboard tinkling. I think Moby has taken himself on a long journey and is coming back to somewhere near his roots. I guess there's some UK/US culture twisting on it's head back to the 80's and I'm really feeling the New York influence. Even Hot Chip are taking back some of what New Order picked up in New York dance scene in the early 80's and you know what, all I can think of is the TV show, Everybody hates Chris -must be the '80's style clothes that are appearing around London. I always wanted one of those Nike Hi-top jackets but there wasn't really anyway I could get one where I lived, they always cost too much anyway.
I guess all the Calvin Harris 80's kids who missed out can get the '80's replay only a little more refined and washed down with a Starbucks on their TiVo. Oh boy, that just went a little stale didn't it, seriously, I love you all.

Bring back huge Boom Boxes and the colour burgundy in abundance! Please!

Moby will be appearing on the UK's BBC2 ’never mind the buzzcocks’ at 9pm on Thursday 7th Feb. You can catch this program after it has been aired here.

Looking forward to hearing all of the new album

From New York Boston! From New York Boston!

Yesterday I blogged that the Beastie Boys were playing a benefit concert called Music has Power for the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) at Terminal 5 (NYC) on March 4th. Well I can now report that Moby (a long time friend and board member of the IMNF) will be hosting the event.
Also, several more acts will play, and will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The IMNF was founded on the idea that "music has unique powers to heal, rehabilitate, and inspire -- and that we can use music therapy to restore and improve our physical, emotional, and neurological health".

Tickets will go on sale tomorrow (Feb 8th) at 12pm (EST) via Ticketmaster. General Admission tickets will be $75. There is an Internet presale ending today 10pm (EST).

Terrible Love Songs will keep you posted with any updates.

FYI What is an Internet Presale? Occasionally, some events will be available to purchase over the Internet in advance of the general public onsale. These presales frequently require a password that may be distributed by the venue, artist, team, or promoter of either the event or the presale, or distributed by Ticketmaster. Often, these passwords are distributed to exclusive members of clubs or certain other types of groups and cannot be offered to members of the public. Links may be published on the Event Information page at the time of presale. Ticketmaster Order by Phone and Customer Service representatives usually cannot give out passwords. If an event is scheduled for presale and we are authorized to publish so in advance, the event page may list an "Internet Presale" date in the ticket onsale information.

I don't think it probably takes much searching to find one of these presale passwords ;-)

Here's the Moby rave classic Feeling So Real to get you going - welcome to Thursday!

Dive Deep into the chilled out world of Morcheeba

Welcome back Morcheeba. I thought I was never going to see you again but I took a chance and after giving away my copy of the Fragments of Freedom album to the local charity shop a couple of years ago-(hard to come back from that!) I have found a new respect for you. I'm a born again Morcheeba fan and Dive Deep is the reason why. I'm really enjoying the mood of this album, chilled out, trip hop, folky. Experimentally talking, it's a pretty safe album but hey if it sounds good, that's OK! The two Original Morcheebas, brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey have teamed up with a few different singers including Judie Tzuke, French singer, Manda, Thomas Dybdahl and hip hop figure Cool Calm Pete to produce some really nice work.

Check out this great video directed by the animator Joel Trussell. I can definitely hear some Beth Orton /Dusty Springfield style vocals in this song Enjoy The Ride (featuring Judy Tzuke). A blinding track to kick off the album.

Here's another track from Dive Deep, a cover version of John Martyn’s folksy Run Honey Run. A hint of Nick Cave/Roy Orbison in Thomas Dybdahl's vocals.

To give you a flavour of how mixed this album is, here's another one of my favorite tracks called One Love Karma with Cool Calm Pete being particularly laid back. This track apparently (according to the Morcheeba Myspace page) incorporates the world's first ever recorded fluteboxing a human beatbox through a flute.

If you want to catch Morcheeba on tour this year, there are loads of dates on their myspace page-sadly none in the UK.

Dive Deep was released on February 4th 2008.

What do you think of these tracks? Write a comment, would be great to hear from you!
